About the Role

The Unified Configuration Platform empowers Uber's engineers to safely evolve services at global scale. We build the systems that make configuration changes reliable - from progressive rollouts and real-time propagation to monitoring and automated rollback - safeguarding the stability of Uber's production environment.

As a Senior Engineer, you will shape foundational infrastructure that enables safe change across thousands of services and has a direct impact on the reliability of Uber's global platform.

What the Candidate Will Do

Design and build scalable, highly available distributed systems that power Uber's unified configuration platform.

Lead technical design for complex initiatives, author design documents, and drive alignment across partner teams.

Implement production-grade services in Go with a strong focus on code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.

Operate and improve critical infrastructure, including monitoring, incident response, and automated rollback mechanisms.

Collaborate with product and platform teams to deliver safe, scalable configuration solutions that serve diverse business needs.

Basic Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including designing and building large-scale distributed systems.

BS, MS, or PhD degree in computer science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.

Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Go, Java with strong fundamentals in system design and reliability.

Experience operating production systems with a strong understanding of scalability, fault tolerance, and observability.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.

Experience operating critical production systems with defined SLOs, including monitoring, incident response, and postmortem practices.

Strong understanding of database and storage technologies, including trade-offs around consistency, replication, durability, and performance.

Experience working with cloud-native and containerized environments (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) across on-prem and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, OCI), along with solid Linux systems knowledge.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles:
The base salary range for this role is USD $202,000 per year - USD $224,000 per year. For Seattle, WA-based roles:
The base salary range for this role is USD $202,000 per year - USD $224,000 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles:
The base salary range for this role is USD $202,000 per year - USD $224,000 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
