Job Description Job Family Definition

Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs software programs for enhancements and new products in high‑performance networking and security systems. Develops software for operating systems, network subsystems, routing engines, security modules, utilities, embedded platforms, and Internet‑related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and influences hardware design for network interface and link layer protocols within embedded and high‑performance networking systems.

Management Level Definition

Operates independently to design, develop, and resolve complex issues across software systems. Works with minimal supervision while providing technical guidance and coordinating effectively with team members and cross‑functional partners. Demonstrates strong ownership, sound engineering judgment, and proactive collaboration to ensure delivery of high‑quality solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Designs enhancements, updates, and programming changes for sub‑systems of systems software, including operating systems, networking components, and security functions.
  • Develops and maintains network interfaces, protocols, and security services to meet high‑performance and high‑scalability requirements.
  • Analyzes design requirements, defines coding and integration activities, and contributes to architectural reviews.
  • Executes and contributes to test plans, verification protocols, and documentation; debugs issues and proposes improvements.
  • Collaborates with hardware, QA, system test, and customer‑facing teams to deliver robust, cost‑effective software solutions.
  • Investigates complex field issues through log‑driven debugging, system‑level analysis, and cross‑layer collaboration.
  • Supports sustaining engineering through maintenance and enhancement of existing features.
Education and Experience Required
  • Master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • 5‑8 years of related working experience in networking, embedded systems, or high‑performance security platforms.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience with software systems design tools and programming languages.
  • Experience developing software for multi‑core embedded platforms, including network interfaces, protocol handling, and security processing.
  • Strong understanding of OS internals, virtualization, computer architecture, and system‑level debugging.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux environments and hardware‑software integration.
  • Preferred:
    Familiarity with Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC).
  • Preferred:
    Experience with Link Layer protocols such as LACP, LLDP, EAPOL, etc.
  • Preferred:
    Experience with Broadcom and/or Marvell SDKs for switching or network‑interface subsystems.
  • Preferred:
    Experience with AI tools for coding assistance (e.g., Copilot) and intelligent debugging.
  • Preferred:
    Knowledge of AI/ML techniques for predicting potential software or hardware errors.
  • Knowledge of software testing methodologies, including test plan execution and debugging tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to present design proposals and negotiate design decisions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, mentor others, and contribute to a high‑performance engineering culture.
