Staff Software Engineer, Storage –

Google’s software engineers build technologies that power billions of users. The Platforms Storage team creates storage solutions for services such as AI/ML, Cloud, Search, Photos, You Tube and more. As a Staff Engineer you will design, develop, and maintain firmware, kernel drivers, system software, and tools that enable efficient, scalable, and secure storage for Google’s infrastructure.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of programming experience in C++.
• 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
• 5 years building large‑scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or network technology.
• 3 years of software design and architecture.
• Experience with low‑level software: C, kernel, firmware, or similar, including design, development, testing, debugging and deployment.

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 8 years of data structures/algorithms experience.
• 3 years technical leadership, leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• 3 years with Python, SQL or scripting languages.
• 3 years working on cross‑functional, cross‑business projects.
• Experience with storage systems, kernel drivers, embedded systems, SSDs, performance analysis and optimization.

• Lead design, development, and deployment of scalable SSD‑based storage systems.
• Coach and influence a distributed team of engineers, ensuring high quality and velocity.
• Align cross‑team goals, outcomes, and timelines, and clearly communicate priorities to stakeholders.
• Anticipate technical and operational challenges and drive resolutions.
• Identify and drive innovation opportunities in the storage domain, influencing executive leadership and energizing peers.
