JOB SUMMARYThe Clinical/Medical Assistant (CMA) functions as a member of the clinic patient care team and serves as both Clinic Assistant and Medical Assistant as directed by the Clinic Manager or designee. Performs all clerical duties required to complete patient check-in/check-out, administers and coordinates the HMO referral and service authorization process, and performs other front-desk activities. Performs a variety of routine administrative, clerical and technical supportive services to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients.
Responsible for clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms and supplies.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
- Escorts patient to exam room; measures and records vital signs.
- Prepares patient for examination or treatment and performs routine screening tests. Explains treatment procedures to patients.
- Assists physicians with procedure setups, patient procedures and examinations. Administers medication by intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular injections, performs skin tests, venipunctures and other technical supportive services upon the specific authorization and supervision of a licensed physician or surgeon. Administers medication following approved procedures and only after verification of medication and dosage by a licensed person.
- Performs routine examination and treatment procedures including applying and removing bandages and dressings, removing sutures and casts, cleaning wounds and applying medications and dressings, performing ear lavage, preparing patients for examinations, and shaving and disinfecting treatment sites.
- Schedules and edits and maintains patient physician appointments for new and returning patients, using the scheduling system.
- Collects patient demographic and insurance data and enters into systems as well as assigns medical record numbers.
- Assures appropriate verifications and authorizations are complete before patient sees provider.
- Assists physicians with procedure setups, patient procedures and examinations. Administers medications and provides other technical supports as authorized.
- Performs routine examination and treatment procedures including applying and removing bandages and dressings, removing sutures and casts, cleaning wounds and applying medications and dressings, preparing patients for examinations, and shaving and disinfecting treatment sites.
- Collects and sends specimens to appropriate labs for testing per protocol.
