Director, Tax Operations (Independent Contractors)
Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr.
Position SummarySupport the operations and transformation of global Earnings & Tax for the Spark Driver Program/Independent contractors. As Director, you’ll help scale and optimize end‑to‑end processes for contractor earnings, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to enterprise standards and drive improvements at the intersection of finance, technology, and the gig economy.
Responsibilities- Oversee Independent Contractor (IC) tax functions – manage operations, systems, reporting, compliance, and controls to meet regulatory obligations across markets and meet worker experience.
- Drive continuous improvement – apply Lean/Six Sigma principles, strengthen controls, and build a culture of operational excellence.
- Establish strong data governance – ensure integrity, security, and auditability of contractor earnings data in partnership with tech and compliance teams.
- Develop people and partnerships – build high‑performing teams, resolve complex challenges, and maintain strong stakeholders and community engagement.
- Exhibit excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills – able to build effective partnerships and support a culture of integrity, ethics, and operator mindset.
- 12+ years’ experience managing global contractor payments and tax operations, compliance, including regulatory reporting.
- Proven expertise implementing automation and process improvements at scale.
- Strong background in data governance and operational risk management.
- Demonstrated leadership of large, cross‑functional teams in complex environments.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. and international tax regulations and financial systems.

Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 5 years’ experience in accounting, income tax compliance, payroll tax, or related area.
- Or 7 years’ experience in accounting, income tax compliance, payroll tax, or related area.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Leading cross‑functional projects.
- License to practice law in at least one state.
- J.D., Masters degrees in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, or Law.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
