HPE is seeking an Optical Engineer in the area of Coherent Optics. As a member of the Optical Engineering team you will drive novel technologies and solutions to create the next generation of packet‑optical products, primarily pluggable Digital Coherent Optics (DCOs) at bit rates of 800G and beyond. You will primarily work with vendors to qualify pluggable coherent optics as well as developing and scoping new ideas and technologies in this rapidly changing field.

You will need strong technical skills and be able to communicate complex ideas across multiple disciplines, organizational levels, and geographically diverse teams. You will have an opportunity to influence and guide the optical industry through peer to peer interactions as well as through the work of standards bodies and MSA's.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate with suppliers on roadmaps, features and compliance to specifications.
  • Develop test plans to verify and test against optical/electrical specifications.
  • Review failed test results with supplier and drive compliance to specifications.
  • Interact with internal teams (Mechanical, Thermal, System Engineering, HW/SW engineering) for coherent optics and router/switch system development.
  • Participate in development of next generation coherent optics, > 800

    Gbps.
    • Monitor standards activity to understand HPE’s needs and contribute when needed.
    • Develop technical specifications based on evolving standards.

  • Identify test equipment and test set architectures required to test new coherent optics products and continually work to improve test efficiency.
  • Conduct optical system level verification testing when needed to understand/reproduce customer issues and escalations.
  • Support PLM on customer RFP responses.
Basic Qualifications:
  • BS or equivalent degree in a relevant engineering or physics discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relative experience in industry.
  • Experience in testing/qualifying coherent optical transceivers, including OSNR measurements, impairment testing and measurement of other optical parameters.
  • Experience in optical system verification and optical line system performance optimization.
  • Solid knowledge in DSP ASIC and its interaction within the pluggable optical modules.
