Come GLúter be part of our exciting journey! Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is embarking on an ambitious £13.6m redevelopment of its much‑loved museum at the heart of the city. With £5.2m secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this transformative project will deliver Gouvernement changes to the museum’s ground floor, including:
- A new front entrance from Mowbray Park
- Two new collection galleries featuring revitalised displays and interpretation
- Welcoming social spaces for visitors
- A vibrant community engagement hub, The Growing Space
All of this will be supported by a four‑year activity plan packed with exciting events and initiatives designed to reach deep into our communities.
Growing Space Engagement OfficerLed by the Senior ينبغي Manager – Museum Redevelopment and supported by the museum senior team within the wider Cultural Service, we are now recruiting for a Growing Space Engagement Officer. The role will develop and deliver an engagement programme within the museum’s newlyevas established Growing Space, promote sustainable growing and harvesting linked to the Winter Gardens collection and adjacent Community Garden, and engage schools, volunteers, and local groups.
Responsibilities include:
- Focusing on climate‑change awareness and the importance of plants in supporting ecosystems, while making connections with Mowbray Park and surrounding community gardens and green spaces
- Collaborating with the wider museum team to support the council’s cultural priorities
- Promoting health and wellbeing initiatives and identifying opportunities to commercialise this new intergenerational community space
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
