Overview
Nursery Nurse on part-time basis (25 hours per week) available on our Paediatric wards at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. F64 is a 17-bedded medical ward (2-16 years). The closing date is 11 February 2026.
You will participate in and assist with the play and care of babies, infants and older children from 0 to 16 years on our busy inpatient paediatric wards. You will provide support to children and their families during their stay in hospital and help advance the quality of play that our children receive.

Main duties of the jobThe paediatric wards at Sunderland Royal Hospital operate with a well-developed, organised team that provides a 24-hour service, 365 days a year. You will be required to work on a rota to meet service needs and to ensure the highest standards of play are delivered. Weekly hours are worked over five days (Monday to Sunday) including some bank holidays.
Work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative without constant supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills and computer skills are required. We seek a flexible and reliable individual who can help us achieve high standards of therapeutic play in hospital.
You will be supported in your development, including training and educational opportunities relevant to your role.

Jobresponsibilities
To assist the registered practitioner in providing high-quality compassionate care and assistance to patients/relatives and their carers, appropriate to their needs.
To use theoretical knowledge and evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic play and recreational interventions within the healthcare setting.
To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring every child/young person has the opportunity, encouragement and facilities for play in a safe, secure environment.

Person Specification Skills & Knowledge- Knowledge of child development and the ability to apply therapeutic play interventions for children, including distraction preparation and post-procedural play.
