Senior Paediatric Teaching Fellow

This Vacancy is only available to current employees of STSFT and doctors employed by Lead Employer Trust.

If you are a teaching fellow entering their third year as a teaching fellow, you will need to have worked 168 clinical hours in the last 24 months, and have had successful annual appraisals.

Undergraduate Medical Education requires committed and interested staff to enable students to make the most of the teaching opportunities available. This post will be to work with the University of Sunderland.

The role will involve teaching alongside the current designated specialty teams while taking a leadership role within the team, supporting team professional development and student assessment processes. The successful candidates will also have the opportunity to study for the PG Certificate in Medical Education with designated study time.

This post offers the opportunity to gain broad experience within the undergraduate teaching team. There are no existing designated clinical sessions as the post is 100% teaching.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include planning, delivery, and evaluation of the University of Sunderland undergraduate paediatric curriculum for medical students.

Candidates must have a MBBS qualification (or equivalent) and be appointed to a postgraduate speciality training programme in paediatrics and hold a National Training Number. The applicant should also have approval to take time out of programme from the Training Programme Director. They should be able to work effectively as part of a team with both autonomous as well as delegated responsibilities.

Prior involvement in undergraduate or other structured teaching is useful as the role involves being able to take a lead in teaching and learning activities, ensuring effective time management, and having great organisational skills.

Good paediatric knowledge is essential, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills, and previous experience of working as a Doctor in an NHS setting. Successful candidates must have an interest in the specialty for which they are applying and be fully registered with the GMC.

To support and develop multidisciplinary undergraduate teaching across the University of Sunderland curriculum. The post holder will be expected to teach within paediatric teaching blocks and coordinate/plan teaching sessions. The Senior Teaching Fellow will also be expected to take an enhanced role in providing pastoral and wellbeing support to students, will participate in assessment, emendation and coordination and support with any additional leadership responsibilities within the team
