SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Location: Sunderland
Pay: £90–£110 per day
Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing
Start Date: As soon as possible

We are seeking an SEMH Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs in a supportive education environment.

This role focuses on helping pupils feel safe, regulated and able to engage positively with learning.

You will work alongside teaching and pastoral teams to deliver consistent support and positive behaviour strategies.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs in the classroom
  • Providing emotional and behaviour support
  • Working 1:1 and in small groups
  • Supporting learning engagement and routines
  • Helping pupils develop coping strategies
  • Building strong, trusting relationships

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has experience in SEMH, SEN, care or youth work
  • Is resilient, reflective and patient
  • Enjoys relationship-led support work
  • Can provide calm, consistent guidance

This role offers meaningful, long-term experience supporting pupils’ emotional development.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
