The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall leadership and management of nursing services within the community, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This role oversees clinical staff recruitment, training, and development while fostering a culture of compassion, accountability, and teamwork. The Director of Nursing partners closely with physicians, department leaders, and frontline caregivers to maintain excellence in resident outcomes, survey readiness, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for implementation of the nursing process by all staff for all residents.
  • Become Acting Administrator in the absence of the Administrator.
  • Provide total resident care in the facility, which includes the following responsibilities:
  • Staffing the nursing department including hiring the nursing staff and 24‑hour scheduling of the nursing staff to meet the needs of the residents and to meet all legal requirements.
  • Work with the Central Supply manager to ensure adequate nursing supplies, keep accurate inventory, and order supplies necessary to meet residents’ needs while following budgetary guidelines.
  • Assist with input for nursing budgets; gather data for proper assessment of facility needs in relation to budget; meet with the Administrator at least quarterly to review the assessment and plan possible changes.
  • Meet nursing payroll and ancillary budgets. Coordinate nursing services with other departments; review care daily, consider residents' needs and family requests, inform other departments of residents' appointments and scheduled activities, and review facility services to ensure their implementation.
  • Assist the Administrator in the development of all facility policies and procedures, with special responsibility for nursing personnel job descriptions; shift duties to correspond to job descriptions; staffing patterns; nursing policies; evaluation of old and new policies and procedures.
  • Participate in screening prospective residents and oversee coordination of admission and discharge of residents.
  • Supervise nursing personnel by evaluating all nursing personnel's job performance and giving wage increases when appropriate and within budgetary guidelines.
  • Give direction to all nursing personnel and provide instruction as needed; promote nursing personnel.
  • Handle disciplinary action of nursing personnel.
  • Terminate nursing personnel according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Deal with all nursing grievances that are departmental; if interdepartmental, work in cooperation with the Administrator and other department supervisors involved.
  • Lead the nursing department staff meetings.
  • Orient and train all nursing personnel.
  • Develop family and community involvement.
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with Federal, State, and local agencies and with physicians.
  • Comply with Federal, State, and local laws as well as facility policies and procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous assignments as determined by the Administrator.
  • Conduct regular Patient Care Plan Conferences within 14 days after admission and every 90 days thereafter.
  • Review and discuss each individual care plan to facilitate proper care for each resident and develop cooperative relationships with local hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, and other related medical professionals, health care agencies, and families of residents.

Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Arizona.
  • Completed an approved Infection Preventionist Certification or have ability to obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.
  • Maintain negative tuberculosis status at hire and annually during employment.
  • Flu shot and relevant immunizations are required.
  • Current CPR certification; CPR certification must remain current during employment. Clinical Other/BCLS - Basic Life Support Current BLS, PALS and or ACLS.
  • Possess current or have ability to obtain an Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
