Banner Health Dermatology offers a comprehensive range of services, from the common to the complex for skin, hair and nails. Our dermatologists are here to help. As a Medical Assistant on this team, you will be an integral part of the patient's Banner experience looking to provide each person with the best customer service and patient care. When assisting patients directly, you will room patients, take vital signs, assist with procedures, scribe, and update patient electronic medical records accurately and timely.

When not doing direct patient care you will be responsible for calling patients with results, checking faxes, initiating prior authorizations, stocking rooms, sterilizing instruments and being an all‑around team player.

Location: Banner Health Clinic Dermatology: 14420 W Meeker Blvd. Bldg. A Ste. 104, Sun City West

Schedule: Monday – Thursday 6:30 am – 5:00 pm

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for assisting clinicians and nursing staff in providing medical care, as well as implementing and evaluating direct patient care. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and skills to provide an excellent patient experience.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare patients for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms and other necessary measurements, recording chief complaint, and documenting pain scores as appropriate. Report any conditions indicating a change in the patient’s condition to the clinician.
  • Assist providers with exams and minor in‑office procedures, which could include taking blood pressure, documenting respiration and heart rate/pulse, taking temperature, performing phlebotomies, ear irrigation and EKGs; act as chaperone as needed. Use universal precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as required.
  • Coordinate and manage patient care including pre‑certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions and scheduling for clinic, hospital and ancillary medical treatments and tests. Communicate test results to patients and serve as a resource to clinicians.
  • Provide clerical support with patient/client notifications and documentation, completing medical records including labs, authorizations, X‑rays, hospital records and prior care for each visit; provide accurate billing information in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a clean, functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment, exam rooms and storage areas; disinfect instruments using appropriate solutions following sterilization procedures; follow manufacturer recommendations and OSHA guidelines for hazardous substances.
  • Order supplies as directed, stock patient‑care areas, and handle medication ordering tasks, including disposing expired medications, equipment recalls.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication with all external and internal customers, exemplifying service orientation and teamwork.
  • Complete all necessary onboarding/orientation activities, including simulation training.
  • Work under the direct supervision of providers, interacting with all levels of staff and external contacts while prioritizing data from multiple sources to support patient and family responses to health status changes.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge.
    • Completion of an approved medical assistant training program, as defined by state regulations.
    • Active Medical Assistant Certification (RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA) with valid membership in the corresponding professional organization.
    • BLS certification required.
    • Strong computer skills and ability to work with medical software.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an organized fashion.
    • For positions in behavioral health settings with children:
      Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and Arizona Criminal History Affidavit required.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed‑care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
    • Additional related education and/or experience.
