Trades ​/ Skilled Labor Technician, Maintenance Technician ​/ Mechanic

ABOUT THE ROLE

Thompson Industrials powered by Clean Harbors in Sumter, SC is hiring a n IS Technician to join our safety‑conscious team. This field role will perform hazardous waste clean‑up, site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling of hazardous materials.

Work schedule:

Days, Nights.

• Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times.
• Hands‑on operation of manual and automated hydroblasting equipment.
• Operation of special equipment such as Ultra High‑Pressure pumps.
• Operate equipment by energizing the pumping equipment and/or specialized hydroblasting and/or chemical cleaning equipment, vacuum trucks, and cutting equipment used on the job.
• Examine surfaces cleaned to ensure conformance to company and customer expectations.
• Conduct routine and required maintenance on the unit and all peripherals, including industrial vacuum equipment and the disposal of hazardous and non‑hazardous materials.
• Perform routine maintenance on company equipment used on the job.
• Additional duties as assigned.

• Reliable transportation – valid driver’s license preferred.
• Ability to perform physical functions per Key Responsibilities.
• Agree to be on‑call; emergency response may extend beyond 8 hours up to 12‑24 hours.
• Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical.

• Vocational preparation, classroom safety training, on‑the‑job training, and essential experience gained on other jobs.
• Language proficiency: understand English to comprehend safety training and respond to instructions.
• Valid driver license and compliance with company driving policy when using company or personal vehicle for business.
• OSHA certification may be required.
• Knowledgeable in operation of emergency equipment such as fire extinguishers.
• May need to provide Federal TWIC.

• May periodically use computers for training purposes.
• Outside work, extreme temperatures, noisy conditions, shift work, flexible schedules, on‑call hours, 24/7 availability.
• Physical effort required: heavy lifting, working with large machinery, confined spaces, and heights.
