Overview
Eaton’s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Switchboard Quality Inspector – 2nd Shift.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 2:00 pm – 12:00 am (Monday through Thursday). The hourly rate ranges from $19.00 to $23.75 per hour and is eligible for a variable incentive program. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
What you’ll do:
Responsibilities- PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Join our Sumter, SC facility as a Switchboard Inspector on 2nd shift. Verify wiring, components, program controllers, and conduct electrical testing of switchboard products and components per applicable test procedures and literature, with the goal of timely order fulfillment and adherence to Eaton’s quality standards. - Inspect and Hi-Pot switchboard products produced on all lines, following inspection work instructions and applicable governmental requirements to confirm proper function, identify non-conformances, and ensure compliance with customer specifications, safety, and quality requirements. Document inspections on the applicable checklist.
- Perform electrical testing using Hi-Pot, continuity testing, and component-specific devices. Verify proper function of switches and circuit breakers, torque connections with a torque wrench, and conduct electrical and mechanical tests per safety and training requirements and procedures.
- Examine and verify mating structures to ensure job completion and problem-free field installation (e.g., splice plate dimensions, kirk key coordination).
- Verify revisions released to production reflect functionality and customer specifications; ensure current revision is in use and previous revisions are not used. Process and update paperwork (POM, test reports, etc.).
- Ensure that component literature and necessary product documentation accompany the job.
- Document and communicate non-conformances as critical quality records, verify required rework, aid problem solving, and communicate design errors to appropriate front-end personnel for correction and revision.
- Ensure suspect product is identified at all times to prevent unintended use.
- BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
- Minimum of two years of manufacturing experience.
- No relocation benefit is offered. Only candidates residing within the immediate area of the Sumter facility (50 mile radius) will be considered.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Switchboard experience including bus assembly or wiring.
- Working knowledge of Lean concepts.
- Associate degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics.
- Skills & Position Criteria:
- Knowledge of basic electricity, current flow, and component functionality.
- Knowledge of assembled switchboard product designs (e.g., PRL-C, PRL-I, IFS, FDS, MF).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of Eaton systems such as Enovia, DMM, POM, MRP/ERP (AS400), MQ1 quality tools.
- Knowledge of applicable UL, NEC, regional utility codes, and customer-specific requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing documents, including wiring diagrams, component literature, engineering drawings, and testing procedures.
- Ability to thoroughly examine customized switchboard products to understand unique requirements; the job is fast-paced and requires multi-tasking with high accountability.
Expected to work with some degree of independence and make decisions that affect the workgroup. Focus on attaining goals and meeting the needs and expectations of internal and external customers.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach at or above shoulder level, grip, and use hands. May stoop, lift, carry, push, pull, and grip. Lifting up to 35 pounds and pushing/pulling up to or greater than 35 pounds with or without accommodation. Vision requirements include far and near vision, depth perception, and color discrimination. Frequent communication is required.
