Job SummaryReports directly to the Rubber Engineering Manager and indirectly to the Rubber Production Supervisors. Provides technical support, primarily mechanical, to production operations. Operates, sets up, adjusts, changeovers, troubleshoots, and repairs/maintains all departmental production equipment. Responsible for production, quality, downtime, and waste levels of machine operation. Provides leadership and training for associates on the production floor. Must project a positive attitude with excellent team skills.
Interacts with machine shop personnel to resolve and improve equipment operation and processes.
- Work shift 8pm–8am, 3 on/2 off, 2 on/3 off
- Lead and train Technical Associates, Rubber Set‑ups, and Rubber Operators on proper setups and repairs of equipment
- Train TA’s in methodical problem‑solving techniques
- Coordinate with engineering and Manufacturing Technicians for project completion
- Utilize resources from engineering, machine shop, production and maintenance as required
- Organize and direct improvement projects to increase equipment utilization
- Perform preventative maintenance according to the PM program or as needed for smooth operation
- Audit PM procedures and activities of TAs
- Track and audit PMs to ensure completion and closure in SAP system
- Analyze equipment failures and update PM work orders
- Set up and debug equipment to documented specifications
- Maintain equipment in working order to meet quality and quantity limits
- Maintain equipment logs, recording downtime and maintenance data
- Have clear and legible handwriting
- Repair equipment and report major problems to supervisor
- Coordinate maintenance with Maintenance Department, Engineering, or other technical resources for major repair/production issues
- Power on machines and ensure proper functioning of machines and control panels
- Ensure safety guards are in position and operating correctly
- Enter equipment downtime as directed by supervision
- Monitor production machinery to ensure top performance
- Support all upstream and downstream operations
- Maintain a neat and clean toolbox and surrounding area
- Verify equipment‑surrounding areas are clean during the shift
- Lead shift meeting for specific production area
- Provide honest feedback on others upon supervision request
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Technical Associate or General Production Equipment Maintenance experience
- Minimum of 1 year in set‑up, TA role, or equivalent
- Proficient with basic hand tools
- Knowledgeable of feeler gauges and other tools for measuring tolerances, torque, and clearances
- Familiar with fixing cams, cam-followers, rod‑ends, bushings, chain drives, conveyors, gearboxes, vacuum systems, pneumatic systems, and ball valves
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience and Rubber Manufacturing experience preferred
- Basic computer navigation skills required
- Self‑starter who functions well in a team environment
- Willing and able to climb onto and around equipment for maintenance tasks
- BD is a smoke‑free campus. Smoking and use of electronic smoking devices, marijuana, or tobacco products are not allowed on BD property, grounds, or in the parking areas.
- False eyelashes, press‑on fingernails, and jewelry not allowed on the production floor. Any associate wearing dermals must cover them while working on the floor.
- Shoes required to be steel‑toe and non‑slip for all associates on the production floor for safety.
