Job DescriptionReports to the Engineering Supervisor. Responsible for the implementation of project and process support activities toward attainment of departmental and plant goals. Provides electrical support to the production departments as directed by supervision. Performs work in accordance with instructions and design concepts making independent decisions in developing electrical design concepts of/for complex production mechanisms. Primary focus in areas of capacity expansion, quality/waste improvement and cost improvement programs.
Required to handle multiple assignments of varying scope and complexity.
- Provide theoretical and hands‑on electrical support to the production departments, identify problems and pursue plans toward their resolution.
- Direct and aid technical associates in resolving production issues, including night and weekend calls at home.
- Support plant manufacturing effort by developing and implementing plans to improve chronic levels of waste, quality defects, equipment downtime, capacity, etc.; lead teams of technical associates and engineers.
- Document all line modifications (electrical or programming) per plant policies – complete change review forms, update specifications, backup modified software, and update electrical drawings.
- Design and implement electrical and control systems for machine improvements and capital equipment projects, including engineering data, programming, panel views/PLC, machine vision, servo & stepper control, robotics, and other electrical systems.
- Perform experiments in a team environment to design semi‑automatic and automatic production machines, prepare detailed electrical design drawings, review design features and cost estimates.
- Ensure design conforms to process specifications, government codes (NEC, OSHA), and electrical/machine specifications before shipment.
- Coordinate activities between equipment vendors, Division R&D, and plant functional departments; recommend vendors, secure quotations, select contractors, supervise work.
- Recommend capital equipment or process modifications, manage installation, debugging, and training of production personnel; manage capital expenditures.
- Prepare documentation (validations, operating procedures, preventive maintenance schedules, change review notifications, spare parts listings).
- Direct support personnel such as machinists and technicians in modification, adjustment, removal, and installation of equipment.
- Propose and implement cost reductions to meet budgeted amounts and deadlines.
- Operate and troubleshoot equipment; act as a mentor and coach for Manufacturing and Engineering Technicians.
- Provide electrical design and implementation of machine improvements and capital equipment project management activities.
- Support project managers by developing, programming, and designing varied and complex portions of new production lines.
- Assist in resolving chronic production issues and improving waste and quality.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- Preferably a minimum of 2 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in high‑speed production of medical devices.
- Preferably an understanding and working knowledge of automation equipment, PLCs, and Solid Works.
