Substitute Teachers

Overview

Summary As a Substitute Teacher, you will provide instructional support and continuity of education in the absence of regular classroom teachers. Responsibilities include delivering lesson plans, maintaining classroom management, and fostering a positive and productive learning environment. You will ensure students remain engaged and that classroom routines and policies are followed, adapting to various grade levels and subjects as needed.

• Follow lesson plans left by the classroom teacher and ensure continuity of instruction.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
• Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules and policies.
• Take attendance and report any issues to school administration.
• Adapt teaching methods and materials when necessary to meet student needs.
• Provide individual or group instruction as needed.
• Supervise students during class, lunch, recess, and transitions.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and occasionally parents.
• Leave detailed notes for the returning teacher summarizing the day’s activities and student behavior.
• Handle emergencies and unexpected situations calmly and responsibly.

• High school diploma or GED required;
• Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow written lesson plans and adapt to different teaching styles and grade levels.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependability, professionalism, and flexibility.
• Ability to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance (as required by local/state law).
• Basic computer literacy and ability to operate classroom technology (e.g., projectors, online learning platforms).
• Physical ability to supervise students and manage a classroom environment.
