Job Summary

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic services of our tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, and power equipment at a customer site or rail yard using a mobile service truck. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full‑time attendance.

Job Description

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic services of our tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, and power equipment at a customer site or rail yard using a mobile service truck. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full‑time attendance.

Key Responsibilities
  • With guidance, perform basic preventive maintenance tasks to include, but not limited to, tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, basic structural repairs on trailer chassis, sub‑frames, etc.
  • Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard
  • Operate assigned service truck in a professional manner and according to company requirements; keep unit clean and well stocked
  • Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures
  • Properly document damage to company equipment to allow subrogation of repair costs
  • Understand and demonstrate the basic use of a cutting torch and welding equipment; perform minor repairs on chassis, frames, brackets, etc.
  • Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs ensuring all holes are sealed and water‑tight
  • Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections under supervision of a certified technician as required

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs
  • AND Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences
  • Possess a clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines
  • Able to supply your own basic tools or purchase through our toolbox purchase program
  • Willingness to work outdoors in the elements
  • Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with up to 1 year of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent
  • DOT certified in FHWA Inspections and Air Brakes
  • Welding certification
  • Forklift certification and experience
  • EPA section 608 certification and refrigeration license
  • Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds)
  • Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
Compensation

The expected starting pay range for this position is between $28.27-$40.93.
