We are looking for an experienced Data Center Facilities Operations Director to support a major critical data center colocation facility. The Director will manage the overall quality and service of the operation and maintenance of critical facility infrastructure systems in accordance with company policies and procedures. This data center operates 24×7×365. The Director will work with the Chief Engineer to maintain relationships with various customers and oversee the in‑house facilities team to ensure the site meets the high and dynamic standards of its internal customers and complies with all SLAs.
The Director will provide consistent leadership and support through planning, communicating and managing a team of professionals responsible for delivering data center facility services. Responsibilities include delivering quality and consistent services and support as established by the Corporation while meeting unique customer requirements, managing issue resolution, ensuring proper performance reporting of key metrics, and establishing goals and objectives based on the corporation’s strategic and business plans.
- Perform periodic site walk‑throughs to ensure company SOPS and MOPS and standards are followed, assisting Facilities Manager, Technicians and contracted vendors.
- Identify vulnerabilities while overseeing 3rd‑party critical facilities on‑site team.
- Communicate the status of the operation process with senior management and on‑site customers.
- Accept and commission the facility to meet the superior and dynamic standards of the company.
- Act as liaison and coordinate efforts between contracted vendors and on‑site customers.
- Oversee development of MOPs for the DC build and approve MOPs for data hall work.
- Participate in the interview process for prospective candidates.
- Audit installed data center components to verify vendor job scope and design documentation for build‑out and ongoing operations.
- Provide strategic and tactical leadership related to operations for performance and reliability of critical systems such as medium‑voltage switch gear, diesel generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, fire detection and suppression, building monitoring systems, etc.
- Supervise on‑site management, including facility manager, technicians, sub‑contractors and vendors to ensure all work follows established practices.
- Obtain and review vendor bids for maintenance, support and repairs; determine appropriate vendor and ensure adherence to quality, scheduling, budgetary guidelines, policies, procedures and standards.
- Manage customer relationships and act as escalation point of contact.
- Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance.
- Coordinate projects with business leaders, manage capacity and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability and efficiency.
- Review MOPs and SOPs for all work on critical data center facility equipment.
- Maintain a constant state of readiness to support the mission goal of 99.999% uptime.
- 10–15+ years of data center or critical facility operations and maintenance experience.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in data center facility operations, supervising or managing a technical staff.
- Previous experience as a Data Center Facility Manager is required.
