What You Will DoThe Scientist, R&D will work on regional and global projects for the Aveeno team within Skin Health and Beauty. This position is responsible for delivering against the Aveeno innovation pipeline and serving as the technical lead in base business (marketed product) support. This position reports into Associate Director, Aveeno R&D and is based at Summit, NJ.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic and operational skills in the end to end execution of regional and global projects, including analyzing consumer insights to help build a strategic innovation pipeline
- Participate in cross functional projects and may serve as the regional leader for North America Skin Health R&D in global programs
- Technical activities include, but not limited to: product design/formulation and process development/process scale-up to support the Aveeno innovation pipeline, perform DOEs in support of investigations, and make formula updates to support base business activities (due to supply disruption, product improvements/upgrades, etc.)
- Operate and lead independent of technical direction and execute projects and analysis with hands‑on involvement
- The Scientist may also draft and execute peer reviewed manuscripts, tech reports and patent fillings.
- Manage routine organizational processes and complexity, risk‑taking and decision making are crucial components of the role in providing mentorship and solutions to technical problems.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required (Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or Pharmacy is preferred)
- A minimum of 2-4 years of related experience (academic or industry), or a Master’s or PhD Degree with a minimum of 0-1 years of related experience (academic or industry)
- Experience with personal care formulation is required
- Cosmetics, OTC or pharmaceutical experience is required.
- A good technical foundation of formulated products including emulsions, surfactants, suspensions, structured liquids, an understanding of material chemistry and process equipment is required.
- Process development/process scale-up experience is required.
- Experience working with external manufacturing and technical project management is required
- Fluent written and oral English communication skills are required.
- MS Office (Word and Excel) proficiency, excellent oral and written communication skills and solid presentation skills are required
- Strong communication skills together with the ability to manage complexity are required prerequisites
- Considerable experience in formulating skincare products highly preferred.
- People leadership skills preferred
- Familiarity with cGMP and other regulatory requirements is preferred
Annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges: $82,025.00 - $. This takes into account a number of factors including work location, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level & other job-related factors.
