General Job Description

The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic that specializes in the modernization and repair of cranes. This position may perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades; as well as solving complex problems when the crane malfunctions. The role requires self-sufficiency, leadership abilities, effective communication, and professionalism to lead field technicians and serve as the liaison between HCSG management and customers.

The Technician works in a safety-first environment. HCSG is a 24/7 service company that requires technicians to be available on-call and provide after-hours or weekend services as required due to customer needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be on-call and provide after-hours services as required.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, inspecting, and upgrading industrial hoists and cranes at customer locations.
  • Train and mentor field technicians.
  • Perform OSHA-required hoist and crane inspections and generate inspection reports and repair orders. Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule work daily.
  • Consult with customers on repair and safety issues and discuss recommendations to improve services.
  • Maintain company-issued equipment, vehicle, and assets in safe condition. Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely. Notify supervisor of deficiencies.
  • Maintain supplies of HCSG forms and materials in the company vehicle.
  • Collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Required

  • Attend company-provided trainings and seminars as required.
  • Participate in HCSG 5 Marks program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

The work is labor-intensive. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs on rare occasions. Requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and prolonged standing and sitting. Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling. Ability to work at heights above 50 feet. Travel 20–50% and willingness to work various shifts, on-call and overtime.

Travel out of town may be required at the company’s discretion.

Work Environment

Work is performed inside or outside depending on customer requirements, with exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors. Summer temperatures can exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum Education:

    High School/GED
  • Experience:

    At least 5-7 years of crane repair experience or 3-4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience in lieu of crane repair & maintenance
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background checks (DISA); random and annual drug testing as required
  • Willingness to work off the ground at various heights
  • Basic computer skills to work with web-based crane inspection programs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
