The Manager Trainee is a full‑time, entry‑level position designed to prepare you for a leadership role within 84 Lumber. You will receive hands‑on training across all aspects of store operations with the goal of promotion to a management position within 6–12 months, potentially increasing annual pay by up to 40 %. Many Manager Trainees progress to General Manager roles within 3–4 years.
Manager Trainees must complete the learning plan and course of study within the assigned timeframe and be willing to relocate for a management position. No experience is required to begin your career at 84 Lumber.
Through a structured training plan (classroom, online, and hands‑on) you will learn:
- Sales and Customer Service – Support customers and drive sales in a retail store
- Store Operations and Inventory Management – Oversee material/supply chain flow, stock, and merchandising
- Blueprint Reading and Estimation – Create material estimates for building projects
- Forklift Operation and Certification – Safe handling of materials and equipment
- Business Management – Payroll, invoicing, inventory, and financial analysis
- Microsoft Office Suite – Enhance and refine skills through comprehensive training
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentYou’ll work both indoor and outdoor settings, assisting customers in all weather conditions (wet, humid, hot, or cold). The role requires frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 80 pounds), and other physical activities. You may also work around machinery and airborne particles.
Responsibilities- Payroll, invoicing, inventory, and POS systems
- Microsoft Office Suite (previous experience preferred)
- Interpreting and analyzing common financial reports
- Reading blueprints and creating material lists
- Responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers
