Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists, Manufacturing Engineer
The suitable candidate shall have specialized expertise in CAD, industrial design, and structural engineering, particularly within industrial enclosures for the solar industry. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience designing and optimizing mechanical systems, focusing on enclosures, mounting solutions, and structural integrity for solar products. This role is pivotal in developing innovative, reliable, and scalable mechanical designs, ensuring that products meet aesthetic and functional requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and contribute to the design of industrial enclosures and mechanical components for solar products using CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD) and industrial design engineering concepts.
- Ensure mechanical designs are robust, cost-effective, and optimized for high-volume production and scalability. Integrate mechanical designs with electrical systems, working closely with other engineering teams to ensure seamless product development.
- Apply industrial design principles to create mechanical components that are aesthetically pleasing, user-friendly, and in line with industry trends.
- Develop designs that consider ease of assembly, installation, and maintenance in both commercial and residential solar applications.
- Perform structural assessments and FEA simulations to ensure that enclosures and support structures can withstand environmental stresses, such as wind, snow, and seismic loads, complying with NEMA, ASME, ASCE, NEC and UL.
- Oversee the creation of prototypes for new mechanical designs and guide testing to validate performance, reliability, and compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to refine designs based on test results and feedback.
- Drive innovation in the design of mechanical components for solar systems, staying up-to-date with advancements in materials, manufacturing processes, and solar industry trends.
- Continuously seek ways to improve designs for manufacturability, cost reduction, and enhanced performance.
- Review, prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications and bills of materials, to facilitate seamless communication within the project team.
- Developing processes, standards, training, and support for the design team.
- Make recommendations for materials to use and safety measures to take, and maintain the highest possible quality.
- All other duties assigned.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to design projects.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to apply them to design projects.
- Problem solving mindset and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Basic knowledge of construction and electrical principles.
- Ability to work with international and multicultural teams.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in Mechanical Engineering/Industrial Engineering field, preferably in the solar industry.
- Proficient in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar).
- Knowledge of engineering principles such as stress analysis, structural systems and industrial design.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations, such as NEC, UL and regional solar standards.
- This position may require the ability to perform tasks that involve standing, walking, lifting 50+ lbs, bending, stooping, computer work, working with live electricity, and other physical activities. Candidates should be able to meet these physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation.
