Job Description Summary

The Immune Health laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania is looking for a highly motivated Resource Technologist to join our team. The major goal of the Immune Health laboratory is to identify and characterize human immune diversity to understand
1) how and why an individual’s immune health changes over time and
2) how immune health impacts responses to disease and therapies. Our overarching mission at Immune Health is to integrate our understanding of immune health deeply into clinical care with the goal of informing clinical decision making. A successful applicant will join a collaborative, engaging and vibrant team of scientists. They will work alongside scientists in the laboratory to perform in vitro experiments including running cytometry instruments, process human peripheral blood and tissue samples, assist with novel assay design, and help lead day-to-day laboratory management.

They will also have the opportunity to engage with clinicians and clinical researchers as part of the mission of Immune Health.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Working alongside scientists to run experiments including flow cytometry experiments and in vitro assays using human peripheral blood and tissue samples.
  • Working alongside scientists develop new assays for monitoring human immune health
  • General lab management, including support with ordering, organization and maintenance of lab reagents and supplies.
  • Data analysis and data management.
  • Processing human peripheral blood samples for plasma/serum and PBMC. Processing tissue samples for single-cell experimental analysis.
  • Presentation of data in and participation at lab meetings and other team meetings.
  • Assisting and training new hires.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Applicants should have experience in immunology or cell and molecular biology. Laboratory skills, for example flow cytometry, working with human peripheral blood samples and tissue culture, would be advantageous but not required. The successful applicant will be expected to assist with data analysis and interpretation.

Coding skills in R programming language would be helpful. Strong candidates for this position will be eager to join a driven, growing team and excited to engage with translational research. They will have excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team…
