ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Suisun City is recruiting for one full-time vacancy that may be filled at either the Accountant or Senior Accountant level, depending on qualifications. The eligible list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill future regular full-time, temporary, or part-time vacancies.
Accountants perform professional accounting work related to the recording and reporting of financial transactions and budget control for assigned funds and City departments. This position reviews accounts payable, payroll, and other fiscal records, prepares financial reports and analyses, and assists departments with accounting and budget activities. Incumbents work independently with limited supervision, exercising judgment and initiative while applying established accounting principles and City policies.
Senior Accountants perform advanced professional accounting work and serve as first-line supervisors within the accounting series. This role oversees and participates in complex accounting activities, including preparation and reconciliation of financial statements, year-end closing, audits, and assigned budgets. Senior Accountants provide technical guidance to staff, support management with financial analysis and reporting, and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations.
IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional who values accuracy, accountability, and customer service. They are comfortable working independently, communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders, and collaborate effectively in a team environment. Experience with governmental accounting and a strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliation, and internal controls are highly desirable.
ACCOUNTANT- BA degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting or business administration.
- Two years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desirable.
- BA degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field.
- Four years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience that includes governmental accounting.

Employees covered by another insurance plan may be eligible for a cash payment up to $700 per month in lieu of enrolling in the City’s health plans. - Retirement - Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) of 2% @ 55 for Classic Employees, or 2% @ 62 for new employees subject to the California Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) of 2013.
- Life Insurance - Fully City-paid life insurance of $200,000 for employee only.
- Longevity Pay – up to 6% depending on continuous years of service
- Paid Leave – 96 hours of sick leave, 14 paid holidays per year, and 80 hours of paid vacation per year for the first five years, increasing over time.
- Education Incentive Pay – 3% additional pay for an advanced degree.
