  • Along with the clinical director, responsible for conducting annual competency assessments for all OC Pharmacy Technicians using the clinical competency checklist defined by OC.
  • The clinical competency of the Lead Pharmacy Technician will be assessed annually by the Clinical Director using the same defined competency checklist.
SUMMARY

The primary role of the Pharmacy Technician Non-Pharm is to prepare the pharmaceutical agents ordered in the correct dose, for the correct patient, and to provide those drugs to the clinical staff for administration. The Pharmacy Technician role also includes direct technical procedures of drug admixture and preparation and the supply and equipment management activities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Technical Procedures
  • Utilizes aseptic technique in medication preparation
  • Performs mathematical calculations to convert drug concentration to dosage desired correctly and efficiently
  • Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment in the preparation of chemotherapy agents
  • Demonstrates technical skills required for drug preparation and ability to assemble required equipment
  • Manipulates equipment correctly
  • Utilizes venting and back flow filters appropriately
  • Reconstitutes powders according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Labels medications clearly
  • Identifies issues of compatibility and stability for the clinical staff
  • Confirms new orders or changes in drug orders with clinical staff
  • Dates, concentration specified, and initials on vials held in storage
  • Verifies expiration dates on drugs and supplies utilized in practice
  • Mentors new nursing staff in drug preparation procedures
Supply Management
  • Lynx system functions, as required for medication management

  • Monthly inventory of supplies not loaded in Lynx system
  • Communicate reorders for supplies from OTN / outside suppliers PRN to nurse manager
  • Check in supplies, verify invoices
  • Transfer supplies to main office PRN
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain current product price lists
  • Justify invoice / bill / pricing
  • Maintain patient education material files
  • Oversee and manage drug inventory in all clinics
  • Max/Min in Lynx
  • Manually order drugs not on auto-ship
  • Drug Audits
  • Collaborate with BO on monthly drug audits
  • Investigate errors in lynx
  • Facilitate drug replacement
  • Train new pharmacy technicians
  • Serve as resource to pharm techs/nurses
  • Research drugs
  • Infusystem pump management
  • Superior Labs- manage clinic hood certifications/troubleshoot problems in all clinics
  • Visit other clinics- spot check supplies, drug inventory, etc.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPEREINCE RECQUIREMENTS
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification:
    Pharmacy Technicians are expected to maintain their individual Pharmacy certification and are encouraged to achieve and maintain an additional IV Certification. Oncology Consultants will provide reimbursement for fees associated with Continuing education programs targeted to maintain certification. Upon successful IV certification and/or Re-certification, submission of proof of completion and fees paid will be reimbursed to the employee.
