JOB TITLE: Forensic Vehicle Investigator
General DescriptionUtilizing your extensive ASE technical experience, you will perform in-depth mechanical forensic investigations on a wide variety of compromised motor vehicles. Having an inquisitive nature and utilizing your forensic expertise, you will form an unbiased scientific opinion to determine "what happened?" Your work location will vary weekly from working in the office preparing accident reconstructions and incident reports to travelling domestically to inspect and analyze the subject motor vehicle.
EssentialFunctions
- Perform in-depth mechanical forensics on a variety of motor vehicles.
- Have in-depth knowledge of motor vehicles, from internal and external bumper to bumper.
- Possess a high level of expertise and technical knowledge in automotive components.
- Perform root cause analysis of failures.
- Identify and develop innovative analytical approaches to detect potential motor vehicle safety issues.
- Search consumer reports, safety recalls, warranty related documents, technical bulletins, legal cases, dealer reports, etc., to investigate all avenues for failure.
- Prepare summary reports professionally and timely.
- Obtain and handle a wide variety of fluid samples extracted from motor vehicles and send them off for analysis in a timely manner.
- Prepare professional reports that are timely, accurate, and contain minimal errors.
- May attend industry related technical conferences and forums throughout the year.
- Abide by company safety protocol and environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- Demonstrated in-depth technical and mechanical knowledge of motor vehicles.
- Ability to work independently and professionally with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize and problem-solve.
- Ability to collaborate well with customers and staff.
- Effective organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to troubleshoot and accurately collect/interpret/document data as required.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to compile and organize expense report receipts per project, timely.
- Willingness to travel domestically 50% of the time.
- Ability to perform a broad range of physical tasks, including sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, squatting, stooping, crawling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, feeling, smelling, and repetitive hand movement.
- 8+ years working as a mechanic, vehicle technical, or similar position.
- ASE certification or ability to promptly obtain certification.
- Prior hands-on experience working with engines of motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, and heavy-duty vehicles.
- 2‑year associate’s degree in a mechanical or technical discipline is a plus.
- Other technical or mechanical certifications will be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to take professional photos, download them to a computer, and include them in various reports.
