Specialist Child Nutrition – Operations Job Overview
The Specialist Child Nutrition – Operations supports the efficient and compliant operation of the Child Nutrition Department by serving as a liaison between CND, Campus Managers, employees, and District departments. The role performs high‑level administrative, business, and technology functions; supports staffing, training, and compliance efforts; and applies innovative practices to improve orientation, training, time management, and operational efficiency through work simplification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Recruitment, Hiring, and Staffing Support- Assists the Director of Operations and HR Business Partner with recruitment, orientation, and marketing schedules to support staffing needs.
- Prepares and submits hiring recommendations and related documentation to Human Resources.
- Maintains and updates the CND employee database to accurately reflect vacancies and staffing changes.
- Provides internal and external administrative support to the Director of Operations, Supervisors, Managers, and employees.
- Coordinates professional association memberships, annual dues, and conference travel arrangements.
- Responds to inquiries and provides general support to staff and external stakeholders.
- Supports the scheduling and coordination of department training programs.
- Maintains Safety and HACCP training schedules and records using department software.
- Ensures training materials and resources are current and available.
- Assists with maintaining records and compliance documentation for federal nutrition programs and grants (CACFP, NSLP, SBP).
- Supports annual updates and compliance requirements related to grant programs.
- Processes and consolidates smallwares requests and obtains vendor quotes in accordance with purchasing guidelines.
- Maintains working knowledge of department web‑based software systems, including troubleshooting, testing, and annual updates.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with managers, administrators, staff, students, parents, and external partners.
- Participates in professional development activities and engages in relevant professional organizations.

- High School diploma or GED – required.
- Associate’s degree – preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years Clerical Experience.
- Extensive knowledge of word, excel, power point and other office computer software.
- Comprehensive knowledge of business office procedures, practices, and office equipment.

Work is performed in classrooms, offices, work stations and meeting rooms. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds. reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
