Overview
The Senior Yield Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate production accounting records, analyzing material usage and yields, and reconciling physical inventory to system data, ensuring financial reporting reflects operational efficiency and cost control in a manufacturing environment.
Education Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- 4+ years of accounting experience.
- Experience with in energy industry preferred.
- Experience with yield accounting software preferred.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills.
- Data Entry and Reconciliation
Skills:
Ability to accurately enter and reconcile large volumes of data, with a strong attention to detail. - Problem-Solving
Skills:
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve discrepancies and complex yield balancing issues. - Communication
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders. Fluent in English, oral and written required. - Flexibility:
Ability to prioritize tasks and adjust work schedule to meet the business needs of the organization.
- Data Entry & Validation:
Use yield accounting software to report daily volume and weight balances based on process inventories, shipments, and receipts in an accurate and timely manner. - Reporting & Analysis:
Prepare and distribute regular reporting on yields, including reconciled yield reports, production/shipping/receipts, consumption reports, and related government reporting. - Participate in mass balance review to understand and explain discrepancies.
- System Optimization:
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of yield accounting within yield accounting systems (e.g., Aspen Tech), identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, enhanced data accuracy, and standardization amongst refineries. - Cross functional collaboration:
Orchestrate and maintain seamless communication as a liaison across Corporate and Plant personnel, ensuring accurate knowledge of manufacturing processes and meticulous recording of commodity movements, validating data used in yield calculations. Regularly communicate with management on work progress, opportunities, concerns, and questions. - Documentation:
Maintain clear and concise documentation of procedures and exceptions. - Special Projects:
Supports hydrocarbon loss control initiatives and other special projects. - Compliance:
Ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies related to inventory and cost accounting.
- Accurate Financial Reporting:
Ensure 100% accuracy and timely completion of all yield and material usage variance reports, contributing to a reliable monthly closing process. This includes required U.S. Energy Information Administration reporting. - Strong Yield Analysis:
Prepare and analyze daily/monthly material yield reports, identifying variances and losses. Working with plant personnel to produce clear, concise, and in-depth variance explanations that enable operational management to understand the root causes of performance deviations. - Robust Data Integrity and Reporting:
- High Data Quality:
The data within yield accounting system will be clean, consistent, and dependable, supporting robust reporting and analysis. - Compliance:
Adherence to internal policies and external regulatory requirements related to commodity movements and inventory. Maintain and document effective controls over material and inventory processes for internal and external audits.
