Boys JV Soccer Coach

Qualifications
  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
  • Substantial knowledge of technical aspects of the sport and a commitment to ongoing learning of new theories and procedures.
  • Serves as a role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
Reports to

The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.

Supervises

Coaches high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in coordination with the athletic director and respective principals.

Job Goal

To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training, while fostering socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, confidence, and pride of accomplishment. To continually upgrade coaching knowledge through clinics, observations, consultation, etc.

General
  • The success of athletic programs influences community image; public exposure and parental pressure for winning must not override sportsmanship and mental health objectives.
  • The position includes extended time, injury risk, and due‑process considerations.
  • This description provides sufficient guidance; in unspecified situations, a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.
  • The position is evaluated yearly and may be renewed for the upcoming school year.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Possess thorough knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Suffolk Public Schools’ Board of Education and responsible for their implementation by the team’s staff.
  • Understand existing system, state, and league regulations; consistently implement and interpret them for staff.
  • Follow the proper administrative chain of command and refer all requests or grievances through the correct channels; attend required meetings.
Staff Responsibilities
  • Establish fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques for assistants; design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure program awareness.
  • Train and inform staff, encouraging professional growth and clinic attendance.
  • Delegate specific duties, supervise implementation, and analyze staff effectiveness at season’s end.
  • Maintain discipline, address grievances, and foster morale and cooperation.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the athletic director or principal.
Administrative Duties
  • Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special sport events.
  • Prepare for scheduled sport events or practices and adhere to facility times; coordinate program with maintenance and school employees.
  • Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements for physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Safeguard assigned equipment and sites.
  • Advise the athletic director and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes.
Student Responsibilities
  • Serve as a mentor to each athlete, promoting character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Monitor each student athlete’s grades and conduct.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant in all practices, games, and travel.
  • Distribute training rules, schedule, calendar, and sport regulations to athletes and parents.
  • Follow injury, medical, and emergency policies.
  • Direct the SPS Trainer to complete injury paperwork and submit forms within 24 hours.
  • Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
  • Determine discipline, enforce due‑process procedures, and coordinate with parents and the Athletic Director regarding eligibility issues.
  • Assist athletes in college or advanced educational selection.
Finance, Facility and Equipment
  • Participate in budgeting with the athletic director, establishing next season’s requirements and equipment specifications.
  • Account for all equipment and recover costs for lost or unreturned items.
  • Manage issuance, storage, reconditioning, and inventory of equipment.
  • Mark and identify all equipment before issuing or storing.
