NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306‑bed medical center serving residents of eastern Long Island. The facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion, a women’s imaging suite, a sleep laboratory, bariatric surgery, a provisional Level 2 Trauma Center, and a Primary Stroke Center. Multiple outpatient sites such as wound care, hemodialysis, primary and specialty offices are also available.
PositionSummary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nutritional Aide – Full Time, Days – Food & Nutrition – Patient Food Service, Monday‑Friday with alternating weekends, 11:00 AM‑7:00 PM. In this role, the successful candidate assembles and disassembles patient trays, prepares, labels, and delivers supplements and nourishment, operates and cleans tray line equipment and the dish machine, and performs general cleaning tasks in a safe, effective manner.
Candidates must also produce food products that meet DOH guidelines and quality parameters of taste, texture, temperature and appearance while serving customers efficiently and courteously.
- Sets-up station with utensils and paper ware required for the meal
- Serves food according to DOH guidelines; wears hairnet and gloves
- Reads patient menu correctly and places food on tray in a timely manner
- Cleans and sanitizes work stations; restocks appropriately
- Removes trash, stacks plates, cups, and bowls for warewashing
- Works in an organized manner so that work schedule is maintained
- Trains and supports new staff on food service procedures
- Opens and closes the food service area in accordance with unit standards
- Transports meal carts in a timely manner and delivers trays within established schedules
- Serves trays courteously and efficiently using AIDET
- Follows infection control procedures
- Maintains a clean work environment and follows standard cleaning schedules
- Sanitizes correctly and stores solutions appropriately
- Sweeps and mops floors when assigned
- Prepares nourishment according to requested dietary restrictions
- Labels and dates all nourishment and snacks correctly
- Follows FIFO in kitchen and pantry areas
- Distributes snacks and supplies according to list, posting inventory and delivery amounts
- Orders, portions, or obtains desired food for patron in an efficient manner
- Provides appropriate condiments and accompanies meal selections; restocks as needed
- Serves customers in a helpful and friendly manner, representing the department in a positive professional light
- Prepares coffee for service and cleans the unit
- Insures that the dining area is ready for service/closed down appropriately at night
- Ensures condiment bins, soda cases, and other supplies are refilled as needed without overstocking
- Ensures paper goods are available, stored and organized without overstocking
- Reconciles cash draw with journal tape at end of shift
- Performs all required cleaning and maintenance functions quickly and efficiently
- Secures a mop to clean up spills and places wet‑floor signs to ensure area safety
- Reads recipes or supply lists, gathers ingredients efficiently, prepares food under DOH guidelines, and adjusts amounts as needed
- Food is prepared, portioned, and served at proper temperature and with attractive presentation
- Leftovers are stored and labeled properly
- Brings food or cart to event or patient room courteously and efficiently
- Cooperates and supports the production and utility functions when needed
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Ability to read a patient menu from 4 feet away and serve appropriate food
- Ability to stand for 80‑90 % of the workday
- Ability to deliver supplies to pantries and trays to patients in a courteous manner
- Ability to work in the heat of a kitchen and dish room
- Ability to lift approximately 30 pounds

The salary range for the role is $51,597.00 – $51,597.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
