Overview

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center serving residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, an ambulatory surgical pavilion with services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. The Stroke Center is designated as a Primary Stroke Center with 24/7 neurology coverage. NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk operates multiple outpatient sites, including a wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position

Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Nurse Manager – MICU/CCU – Full Time, Nights. In this role, the successful candidate provides clinical leadership and management for a designated time period (shift) for a patient care unit (or clinical service in operative and ambulatory settings), consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, nursing departments, unit, or program.

Assists the nurse manager to develop and sustain an environment of excellence in patient/family service, staff growth and development, and to apply evidence-based practice to improve patient care.

  • Monitors attendance and ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix to optimize patient outcomes and safety while promoting fiscal responsibility.
  • Coordinates care delivery and staff assignment based on patient care needs and clinical competency for optimal unit operation and outcomes.
  • Assists in scheduling, payroll, and integration of services across the care continuum.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed to support unit operations.
  • Provides leadership support to other unit(s) in the service.
  • Holds self and others accountable for delivery of exemplary care in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Maintains accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards, and policies at organizational, local, state, and federal levels.
  • Communicates clearly and with integrity to build trust with stakeholders; reports significant patient care issues, safety, risk management concerns, and critical events to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Maintains regular communication with the Nurse Manager about patient safety, clinical practice, staff performance, and unit initiatives.
  • Participates in drafting nursing and organizational policy, engaging frontline staff and supporting shared governance.
  • Supports data collection and uses data to drive practice changes that improve quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity.
  • Assists leadership in maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated learnings, and content for unit staff.
  • Fosters high-reliability concepts and a culture of inquiry, innovation, and transformation with focus on the future.
  • Supports staff involvement in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
  • Leads and supports development of new insights to complex situations and programs.
  • Exercises independent judgment in duties including disciplinary actions, evaluation, and staffing decisions.
