Overview
Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Senior Sterile Services Technician for a Full Time, first shift role in Suffolk, VA.
HoursHours are primarily from 7A or 8A to 3PM or 4P Monday to Friday. No dedicated call schedule, but may be required to be available for staff call outs as needed.
DutiesDuties include:
- Staff assignments, validation checks, OR coordination, staff supervision and support, and assisting vendors with required tray needs.
- The Senior Central Sterile Services Technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments, medical equipment, and supplies used in patient care.
- This position operates and maintains sterilization equipment according to established procedures and standards.
- Examines medical equipment for defects and reports faulty equipment to appropriate personnel.
- Ensure compliance with all established local and federal health and safety regulations.
- The Senior Central Sterile Services Technician functions as a preceptor and educator for new team members, providing educational support through hands-on training and orientation, and serving as a subject matter expert in sterile services.
- The senior technician manages work allocations for peers within the department.
Sentara Obici Hospital is a recognized Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital, with an average of 5,000 cases per year. The 40-person team supports seven operating rooms, and performs a diverse range of procedures including general, ortho, podiatry, vascular, GYN, spine, and plastics, utilizing advanced systems like DaVinci robotic technology. The team, comprising RNs, surgical assistants, surgical technologists and OR techs, works across Obici and Bell Harbor hospitals, with opportunities to assist in Obstetrics as needed.

Education- High School Graduate or equivalent required
- BLS within 90 days of hire Required
- Unexpired Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required
- 3 years of related experience required
- Ability to transition between tasks efficiently required
- Team work and communication skills required
- EVS, Acute hospital experience or Hospital inventory experience, preferred
- Previous supervisor or leadership experience preferred
