NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility houses the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—and a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It also operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center and a designated Primary Stroke Center with neurologists available 24/7.
Additional outpatient sites include wound care, hemodialysis, and various primary care and specialty offices.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant – Evening Laboratory – Full Time, Evenings – Clinical Labs – Evening Lab - Mon. In this role the successful candidate will assist lab staff with the day‑to‑day operation of the laboratory, providing clinical, clerical, and inventory management support. Responsibilities include specimen management/processing, ordering and receipt of inventory, instrument maintenance, and communication with providers and other laboratories.
The candidate will also assist the Pathology Department with the daily maintenance, receipt of bodies, hand‑off to the appropriate individual, record keeping, and upkeep of the morgue.

- Maintain an adequate supply of laboratory items and department‑specific reagents; communicate need for additional supplies to supervisor.
- Ensure proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials; receive all goods delivered and document according to NYU policy and regulatory guidelines.
- Help with front‑end processing of all samples preparing them for analysis (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport, placement on automated test platforms).
- Responsible for back‑end processing of samples, including preparation for storage, tracking, and eventual disposal according to policy.
- Properly dispose of all department‑regulated medical, biological, chemical, and clean waste.
- Clean all laboratory work surfaces and assigned equipment in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Maintain logs for temperature and humidity for assigned equipment, work areas, and eye‑wash stations.
- Help review routine and stat pending lists and retrieve missed tests/specimens.
- Answer the phone and provide assistance to callers regarding test specifications, availability, and turnaround time.
- Access automated test platforms to assess status of test samples.
- Help with shipping of blood and body fluids to other sites.
- Help with inventory management of blood products (receiving, stocking, expiration).
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
- Laboratory experience handling open containers of blood and body fluid (excluding accessioning/intake).
- Knowledge of computer applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication skills.
- 1+ year of experience as a laboratory assistant.

The salary range for this role is $43,865.64 – $43,865.64 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
