Performs responsible human support and paraprofessional work assisting school administrators and classroom teachers by assisting with monitoring students in various locations, and working with individual students or small groups; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the classroom teacher and/or principal.
Salary Range: $25,636 - $32,889
Essential Job Functions- Supervise students and their activities outside the classroom
- Routinely monitors hallways and stairwells during change of classes
- Assist with maintaining order; report or remove students whose behavior is unsafe or disruptive
- Assist the classroom teacher with instructional activities; assisting students to reinforce material already presented through special efforts and repetitions; preparing and maintaining files and reports.
- Assists classroom teacher(s) in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks;
- Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by teacher;
- Prepares materials for instructional and student activities;
- Assists with large group activities;
- Guides independent study and other work assigned by teacher;
- Reports student problems to teacher and assists with student problems;
- Assists with daily routine student activity procedures as assigned by administration;
- Participates in inservice training programs as assigned;
- Performs related tasks as required.

- General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in addressing student behavior, student safety and security;
- De-escalation techniques;
- Classroom teaching support;
- Ability to maintain confidential files and information and to compile reports;
- Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers;
- Skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and the general public
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects;
work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities;
the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and noise.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in working with children.
