Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads - both students and employers - for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions.
The college had 3,399 graduates in , 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled 's institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Warehouse Specialist ensures the efficient, safe, and customer-focused handling of supplies, equipment, and mail services for Tidewater Community College. Duties include verifying shipment contents, reporting discrepancies or damages, documenting receipts in eVA, and routing items promptly to end-user destinations. The role emphasizes proactive customer service by responding to campus needs with professionalism and accuracy, while continuously seeking opportunities to improve processes for greater efficiency, safety, and reliability.
This role is responsible for assisting in inventory of fixed assets following the Fixed Asset Manager in tracking and tagging all fixed assets in AIS. This position has backup responsibility for the timely delivery of materials to the campuses, removal of surplus property, resolution of complex warehouse related issues, and accurate receiving of incoming shipments into the District Warehouse. All activities are conducted in strict compliance with workplace safety and health standards, ensuring the secure handling and transportation of materials.
This position has been designated an essential position. The employee filling this position may be required to report to work or otherwise fulfill the responsibilities of the position in the event of a college/campus closure due to weather or other emergent condition(s).
Minimum Qualifications:
* Advanced knowledge of warehousing operations, including receiving, inspecting, storing, and issuing equipment, supplies, and materials as well as the surplus & disposal process.
* Understanding safety procedures and compliance standards in warehouse environments (lifting, stacking, storing).
* Working knowledge of automated/electronic inventory control and verification systems and standard office software applications.
* Familiarity with fleet operations and surplus property management.
* Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to warehousing and asset control.
* Understanding of customer service principles and effective communication strategies.
* Strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
* Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills for resolving customer inquiries and operational issues.
* Skilled in safely operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and material handling equipment.
* Ability to develop and implement procedures for receiving, storage, and distribution of materials.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and database software for documentation and reporting.
* Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills to ensure accuracy in administration of fixed asset and expendable supplies program, documentation, delivery, and disposal/surplus processes.
* Ability to research, prioritize, and resolve issues with available resources and minimal supervision.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, vendors, and college departments.
* Ability to maintain, review/audit, and correct inventory records, asset control, and fleet operations.
* Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing circumstances.
* Physical ability to perform warehouse tasks, including lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, standing, and operating vehicles.
* Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Valid Driver's License
