The Iron is not a typical golf course – it is a ground-up build of a premium Northern Ontario golf and event destination. Our course is being constructed in-house, allowing us to shape every fairway, green, and landscape feature with intention, craftsmanship, and pride. Paired with our log cabin clubhouse, luxury event venue, and hospitality operations, The Iron is redefining golf in the North.
We are looking for a motivated, hands-on Assistant Superintendent to help bring this vision to life – from construction through grow-in and hopefully into long-term course excellence.
Position SummaryThe Assistant Superintendent will work directly alongside the Golf Course Superintendent and management/ownership team in the day-to-day construction, development, maintenance, and future operation of The Iron Golf Club. This is a rare opportunity to be involved in the creation of a course from the ground up – shaping terrain, installing infrastructure, and later transitioning into agronomy and course conditioning.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in outdoor, hands-on environments, enjoys equipment operation, problem-solving, and is a natural leader.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in golf course construction, shaping, drainage, irrigation, and grow-in
- Operate and maintain construction and turf equipment
- Support daily crew leadership and job-site organization
- Assist with turf care practices including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pest management
- Monitor course conditions and contribute to planning improvements
- Ensure safety procedures and equipment standards are followed
- Transition from construction focus into long-term course maintenance operations for the right candidate
- Collaborate with Superintendent, ownership, and architect on course development goals and timelines
- Experience in golf course maintenance, landscaping, construction, or related outdoor trades
- Equipment operation experience considered an asset
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in varying weather conditions
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized turf equipment
- Leadership ability and strong communication skills
- Passion for golf course development and outdoor craftsmanship
- Valid driver’s license required
- Formal turfgrass education is an asset but not required
