Position Overview

EXP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer ( to lead the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical systems for industrial and municipal infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who excels in technical leadership, system design, mentoring, and client engagement

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Lead mechanical system design for projects, including: HVAC systems Piping and fluid systems Industrial machinery and equipment
  • Perform and approve complex engineering calculations
    , including:
    Heating and cooling loads Fluid dynamics and pressure losses Thermodynamics and energy analysis
  • Ensure designs comply with ASME, CSA, NFPA
    , and applicable local building and mechanical codes
  • Prepare and review technical documentation
    , including:
    Specifications Design briefs and reports Risk assessments Sequences of operation
  • Develop scope of work and basis of design
    , maintaining accuracy through all project phases
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (MEP/FP, Architectural, Civil, Structural)
  • Manage vendor and supplier interactions
    , reviewing technical submissions and equipment selections
  • Review, approve, and stamp drawings and specifications
    ; perform QA/QC reviews
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and technologists
  • Manage project scopes, budgets, schedules
    , and deliverables using sound risk management practices
  • Respond to RFIs
    , review submittals, and troubleshoot issues during design and construction
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and field investigations
    , providing on-site technical guidance
  • Apply advanced mechanical engineering concepts, including:
    Psychrometrics Hydronic and air-side system design Energy efficiency and performance principles
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders to define requirements and meet project milestones
  • Qualifications & Experience

    The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise and leadership experience in mechanical engineering
    , including:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer ( in Ontario or eligible for licensure within a short timeframe
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering design for industrial and/or municipal infrastructure projects
  • Strong proficiency with mechanical design software
    , including:
    AutoCAD (mandatory)
    Revit, Solid Works
    , and simulation / FEA tools (assets)
    MS Office (Word, Excel) and MS Project for project management
  • Experience in preliminary and detailed design for heavy industrial and municipal systems
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering codes and standards
    : ASME CSA NFPA Local building and mechanical codes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform advanced engineering calculations
  • Proven leadership and mentoring ability
    , including multidisciplinary coordination
  • Experience managing project scopes, budgets, schedules
    , and deliverables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • The salary range for this role is between $100K - $150K. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
