Airswift is seeking a Project Controls Lead to work for a major mining client on a 2-year contract. Role Overview

The Project Controls Lead will be responsible for the overall management and integration of project controls functions, including cost, schedule, progress measurement, forecasting, risk, and reporting, for a Smelter Furnace Rebuild Project. The role supports all project phases, including pre-shutdown planning, shutdown execution, and post-shutdown recovery, ensuring robust governance, transparency, and decision support for the Project Director and senior stakeholders. This position is site-based and works closely with the Master Project Scheduler, construction management, contractors, and the owner’s project team to ensure alignment between cost, schedule, and execution.

Project

Controls Leadership
  • Lead and integrate all project controls disciplines, including cost control, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, and change control.
  • Establish and maintain the Project Controls Framework, procedures, and reporting standards for the project.
  • Ensure alignment between the master schedule and cost control systems.
Cost Management & Forecasting
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cost baselines, and forecasts.
  • Monitor actual costs, commitments, and accruals against approved budgets.
  • Identify cost variances, trends, and risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support evaluation and management of variations, claims, and change orders.
Schedule Integration & Shutdown Support
  • Work closely with the Master Project Scheduler to integrate schedule and cost data, particularly for shutdown and turnaround activities.
  • Support planning and control of pre-shutdown, shutdown, and post-shutdown phases, ensuring schedule-driven cost and resource visibility.
  • Participate in schedule reviews, risk assessments, and recovery planning.
Progress Measurement & Reporting
  • Define and implement progress measurement methodologies aligned with construction and shutdown activities.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and executive-level reports, including cost, schedule, risk, and performance dashboards.
  • Provide clear, data-driven insights to support Project Director and senior management decision-making.
Risk, Change & Governance
  • Lead project risk identification, analysis, and mitigation tracking in coordination with the project team.
  • Manage project change control processes, ensuring impacts to cost, schedule, and risk are assessed and approved.
  • Support stage-gate reviews, audits, and governance requirements.
Stakeholder & Team Coordination
  • Act as a key interface between the owner’s team, contractors, and EPC/EPCM partners on all project controls matters.
  • Mentor and guide project controls resources, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance with standards.
Key Requirements
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in project controls roles on large capital projects.
  • Proven experience on processing plant, smelter, mining, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting shutdowns, turnarounds, or major outages.
  • Experience working within owner’s teams or EPC/EPCM environments.
Technical Skills
  • Strong expertise in project cost control, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Solid understanding of Primavera P6 scheduling and schedule–cost integration.
  • Experience with earned value management, progress measurement, and risk analysis.

Leadership & Communication
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills in multi-disciplinary, site-based environments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with senior management, contractors, and technical teams.
  • Comfortable supporting executive-level reporting and decision-making.
Certifications (Preferred, Not Mandatory)
  • Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or equivalent qualification.
  • PMP, AACE, or similar project controls certification (preferred).
Compensation

$60 to 72/hr depending on experience, classification, and contract structure. Final compensation will be determined based on candidate qualifications and client requirements.
