The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Engineer, Infrastructure to join our Mines Technical Services team at Coleman Mine in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.

As an Engineer, Infrastructure
, you will work with mine operations and technical disciplines to ensure mining operations are planned, developed, and operated in a safe, efficient, and cost‑effective manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Support &

    Collaboration:

    Provide mining engineering support to multidisciplinary teams (geology, mining, geotechnical) to enable integrated, effective underground mine planning and operations.
  • Mine Design, Planning & Scheduling:
    Contribute to underground mine design and evaluation; develop and manage development and production schedules, including stope and heading sequencing aligned with operational objectives.
  • Backfill & Blasting Design:
    Design sandfill and development rock backfill strategies and blasting plans to optimize ore recovery while ensuring ground stability, safety, and minimal dilution.
  • Safety & Continuous Improvement:
    Embed safety into all engineering activities in alignment with the MTS Safety Plan, while identifying opportunities to improve safety, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Infrastructure, Utilities & Water Management:
    Maintain and update mine level and section prints; manage infrastructure systems (drainage, pumping, backfill, air, LTE) and support the Water Management Program and related investigations.
  • Layouts, Boreholes & Engineering Requests:
    Prepare and review development, service, and borehole layouts; perform QA/QC and database updates; initiate and validate engineering requests for new underground infrastructure.

About You Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering.
  • P.Eng. designation is required.
Experience
  • A minimum of 18 months of mine production planning and mining engineering experience is required.
Skills
  • Underground mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and a high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of engineering planning software (Deswik) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cash flow modeling techniques and mineral economics is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
  • Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things in order to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
