An established and fast-growing UK-based manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join its operations team. You’ll play a key role in planning and coordinating daily transport operations, ensuring customer expectations are met while driving efficiency and cost savings across the transport network.
The RoleAs Transport Planner, you will be responsible for the efficient planning of deliveries and collections, acting as a key point of contact for customers and internal teams. A major focus of the role is route optimisation, multi-drop planning, and demonstrating tangible cost savings.
Key Responsibilities- Transport Planning
- Plan, schedule, and allocate transport resources to meet delivery and collection requirements
- Build daily and weekly transport plans based on order volumes and operational priorities
- Optimise routes and group multi-drop deliveries and collections to achieve cost efficiencies
- Coordinate closely with warehouse and operational teams to ensure smooth dispatch and turnaround
- Track and report monthly cost savings achieved through route optimisation
- Customer Coordination
- Book deliveries directly with customers, confirming dates, times, and site requirements
- Arrange collections of recyclable materials from customer sites
- Act as the main point of contact for delivery or collection queries and changes
- Build strong working relationships with new and existing customers
- Identify potential new business opportunities within existing delivery areas
- Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate transport plans, delivery bookings, and collection schedules
- Produce reports on route efficiency and cost savings
- Complete all required transport documentation accurately and on time
- Provide administrative support using business systems and Excel
- Ensure communication regarding collections is directed to the correct customer contacts
- Experience in transport planning, logistics, or a similar operational role
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Confident dealing with customers, drivers, and internal stakeholders
- Strategic thinker with a continuous improvement mindset
