Position: Sports & Rec Specialist (SPRSPC)

The Sports & Rec Specialist Coordinates and delivers recreation offerings with emphasis on participant development and experience quality. Supports volunteer and official coordination as applicable.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in relationships with colleagues, members, volunteers, vendors and guests.
  • Implements energizing, fun, safe, and educational programs in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans and curriculum accordingly with room for flexibility.
  • Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall youth development experience.
  • Addresses parental concerns and questions in a professional manner.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and/or supplies and the cleanliness and safety of the instructional area and any materials.
  • Maintains physical presence, remains alert at all times while on duty, maintains constant visual attention to participants, and remains aware of community surroundings.
  • Knows, follows, and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, and those for the prevention of child abuse and the rule of three.
  • Actively participates in all staff meetings, open houses and other promotional events to promote the program(s).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience implementing youth or teens programs preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and assist in youth sport and recreational activities within a busy environment
  • General knowledge of YMCA mission and philosophy regarding youth programs
  • Must be people oriented, possess professional communication and organizational skills
  • Must have a passion for helping others, patience, and the ability to adjust to evolving situations
  • Ability to work well with youth and adults in a largely diverse population
  • First Aid/CPR certification required within 90 days of hire
