PRINCIPAL - Elementary
Second Hill Lane Elementary School
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Elementary Principal reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent and is responsible for the general operation and leadership of the school. This position will continue in accordance with terms outlined in the Stratford Administrators' Association (SAA) contract.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
* Ensure a safe and orderly environment for students and staff.
* Coordinate, evaluate, and improve the instructional program for all students in the school.
* Supervise and evaluate all certified personnel in the school, and promote the improvement of teacher performance through a systematic program of professional development.
* Promote positive relationships between the school, the parents of its students, and the general community.
* Develop the annual budget request for the school, and manage financial resources as provided through the budget of the school district.
* Substantial knowledge of elementary curriculum and instruction, early childhood education, intellectual curiosity, an extensive background in reading and writing, strength in staff development, a respect for children and a love of learning.
* Experience in assessing student performance, in using data to improve teaching and learning and in using technology as a tool for school management and learning.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent or designee.
Skill Requirements:
* Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and the community.
* A steady composure, grace under pressure, and a willingness to try new things.
* A record of superior past performance and evidence of successful leadership, or potential, in an elementary school setting.
* Thorough knowledge of teaching methodology and techniques.
* The ability to work cooperatively with staff and to exercise leadership in the supervision of staff and the development of curriculum.
* The ability to organize the school so that the needs of students and teaching of subject matter will be interwoven in the most effective manner.
* Superior oral and written communication skills.
* High standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity.
* Strong work ethic.
* A strong academic record, both undergraduate and graduate.
* Possesses kindness, intelligence, creativity, a sense of humor, and attention to detail.
Qualification/Certification Requirements:
* Current CT Administrators certification required (092).
* Minimum of 3 years successful administrative experience preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience.
* Familiarity or experience with strategic whole school improvement preferred
WORK YEAR
Full Year per Stratford Administrators Association (SAA) Contract.
COMPENSATION
The salary for this position is determined in accordance with the provisions of the Stratford Administrators Association (SAA) contract.
