Based in Stratford, this business prides itself on entrepreneurial spirit, collaborative culture, and commitment to excellence. As they continue to scale, they are seeking a commercially astute and hands-on Financial Controller to lead the finance function and support strategic decision-making.

Role Summary

This is a pivotal role for a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced SME environment. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, including regulatory compliance, financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management. You’ll work closely with senior leadership to drive performance and ensure financial robustness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the full finance function, including bookkeeping, month-end close, and statutory reporting
  • Prepare monthly management accounts with insightful commentary
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Manage cash flow and working capital, including credit control and supplier payments
  • Oversee payroll, VAT returns, and HMRC compliance
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and banks
  • Implement and improve financial controls and systems
  • Provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions
  • Support funding, investment, and growth initiatives
  • Mentor and manage junior finance staff (if applicable)

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a similar role within an SME environment
  • Strong technical accounting skills and commercial acumen
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Quick Books, Sage) and Excel
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented approach
