Prototype Vehicle Technician
Gaydon, Warwickshire – 37 hours per week, rotating shift pattern – £34.13 per hour (Umbrella PAYE) – 12-month contract, potential extensions.
Join the Future of Automotive Excellence as a prototype vehicle technician at a world‑leading automotive manufacturer. We’re looking for a forward‑thinking engineer to work on models of the future, ensuring accurate testing and development of whole vehicles, both ICE and EV.
Your RoleYou will be responsible for the proofing, testing and development of whole vehicles. Using your mechanical, electrical and trim skills you will assist in the early‑stage prototype development process in a state‑of‑the‑art facility working closely with engineers.
Working Hours- Weekly rotating double day shift pattern: 37 hours per week plus overtime when required.
- Early shift – Monday‑Thursday 6:00 am – 2:05 pm;
Friday 6:00 am – 12:00 pm. - Late shift – Monday‑Thursday 1:55 pm – 10:00 pm;
Friday 11:50 am – 5:50 pm.
£34.13 per hour, paid via an umbrella PAYE payroll model. The contract is 12 months with potential extensions and is deemed inside IR35. The umbrella rate includes hourly pay, holiday pay and recruitment administrator fees.
Duties and Responsibilities- Whole vehicle development including dynamics, braking systems, suspension, dampers and powertrains.
- Mechanical and electrical strip, build, calibration and refit of various systems.
- Work closely with engineers to adapt, calibrate, test and prove out prototype vehicles, ensuring they are fit for purpose at high speeds, on differing terrains and in hot/cold climates.
- Apply knowledge of EVs, hybrids, petrol and diesel vehicles.
- Use whole vehicle instrumentation on test/development vehicles.
- Diagnose issues and log engineering improvements.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Use a variety of handheld tools and work with precision components.
- Level 3 City & Guilds/NVQ/IMI qualifications in an automotive discipline (essential).
- Electric Vehicle / Hybrid Level 3 (IMI or equivalent) – desirable.
- Capable of interfacing with modern vehicle electrical systems.
- Extensive hands‑on experience of whole vehicle projects.
- Good engineering background and ability to develop technical solutions to build/quality issues.
- Knowledge and practical understanding of H&S, COSH and environmental procedures.
- Flexible attitude towards working hours; overtime may be required.
