Director @ Atlantic Group | Executive Search, StaffingThe Assistant Controller supports the Controller and senior management in overseeing the financial operations of the real estate development company. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records, assisting with budget preparation, managing audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting, real estate development experience, and exceptional analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor project budgets and costs, providing variance analysis and reporting.
Accounts Management
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes.
- Manage and reconcile bank accounts and general ledger accounts.
Audit and Compliance
- Coordinate internal and external audits, preparing necessary documentation.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and company policies.
- Track and manage costs for real estate development projects.
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor construction draws, loans, and funding.
- Maintain accurate records of project-related expenses and income.
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial reporting and operational efficiency.
- Utilize financial software and tools to streamline accounting processes.
Team Support and Leadership
- Assist in training and mentoring junior accounting staff.
- Act as a liaison between the accounting team and other departments to ensure seamless communication.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estate development or construction required
- Strong knowledge of project accounting and cost management.
Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Yardi, Sage) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
