Motor Vehicle OperatorRequired Qualifications
- Must have, keep, and maintain an appropriate valid Class B NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Must participate in the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (drug and alcohol testing) as required.
- Must have a motor vehicle record free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

- Working knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of vehicles.
- Working knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures.
- Working knowledge of routes to specific locations normally visited.
- Ability to physically operate assigned vehicles safely and effectively under various road conditions.
- Ability to plan routes to specific locations and to properly estimate time required to reach the locations.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on vehicles operated.
- Ability to communicate orally for the purpose of exchanging information.
- Regularly drive a variety of motor vehicles including automobiles, buses, trucks, and ambulances to transport people, material, and equipment as required.
- Post manifests and other records of goods and people transported in order to document safe delivery.
- Drive Mobile Dental Clinic to host sites according to a flexible schedule of days and hours needed for travel.
- Conduct site visits to ensure adequate facilities and safety.
- Map routes, itineraries, and points of call as needed.
- Maintain a log of required maintenance, mileage, and fueling.
- Adhere to and maintain manufacturer-required maintenance schedules, deliver vehicles for service, and collaborate on vehicle appearance maintenance requirements.
- Operate and maintain vehicles, including fueling, recommended service, and daily inspection checklist.
- Move or carry cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
- Assist with assembly and breakdown tasks, including steps and banisters, and ensure all bungees are secure and nothing can move during transport.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
These are temporary part-time positions (16 hours per week), shift 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., days varied. FLSA Nonexempt positions, eligible for overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. Hiring Rate $22.62 per hour.

This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work or remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.

Successfully complete pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook University’s Employee Health Services (the hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination), clear a background investigation, submit three written references, and provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Failure to comply could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
