Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a Motor Vehicle Operator regularly drives any of a variety of motor vehicles including automobiles, buses, trucks, and ambulances in order to transport people, material, and equipment as required.
Duties Driving Tasks- Monitors gauges and checks fluid levels and tire pressures.
- Starts, stops, steers and controls vehicles both on the grounds of State institutions and facilities and over the road.
- Posts manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and people transported.
- Moves or caries cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
- Moves or carries cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle operated.
- May map routes, itineraries and points of call.
- Performs same tasks as mentioned above.
- Replaces lamp bulbs.
- Pumps gas and adds water to radiator, oil to crankcase and air to the tires.
- Changes tires and washes vehicles.
- Changes oil and spark plugs.
- Performs same tasks as mentioned above.
- Drive Mammography Mobile to Host sites. Flexible schedule of days and hours as required to accommodate travel time to and from sites.
- Site visits to ensure adequate facilities and safety. May map routes, itineraries, and points of call.
- Maintains log of required maintenance, mileage, and fueling. Moves or carries cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle operated.
- Moves or caries cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
- Must adhere to and maintain manufacturer required maintenance schedule and deliver vehicle for such by working with the program coordinators and maintaining accurate records. Will also collaborate on vehicle appearance maintenance requirements.
- Operate and maintain vehicle, including fueling, recommended service, and daily inspection checklist.

- Candidate must possess a New York State driver license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
- Candidate may be required to possess a CDL Class A, B, C or General Class D license.
- Knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of the vehicle in question.
- Knowledge of the nature of cargo carried and any special handling required.
- Knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures.
- Ability in the operation of motor vehicles as required.
- Ability to lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes and other cargo onto and off of transport vehicles.
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Customer service experience.
- High School Diploma

- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
