- Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field in hand by hire date. Experience with experimental procedures and data analysis in biology-related fields (outside of classes).
- Experience with microbiology research handling bacterial cultures with aseptic technique.
- Experience with animal handling.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques.
Within defined test or analytical protocols operate equipment, carry out test procedures, as well as collate and interpret data using special methods in support of a research project or program for Dr. Hwan Kim in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Duties- Perform experiments with Staphylococcus aureus and study the bacterial survival and mutational frequencies.
- Conduct experiments with recombinant approaches to define mutations impacting Staphylococcus aureus biology and virulence through biochemical analyses, molecular methods, and in vivo modeling.
- General laboratory maintenance, including media and buffer preparation, laboratory organization, biohazard waste removal, preparation of reagents and glassware, and assisting the laboratory manager.
- Document data generated in studies, analyze data with appropriate statistical methods, prepare reports and presentations for laboratory members, supervisor, and the research community.
- Other duties as assigned.
