Works under the direction of the Nurse Manager, functions as a Team Leader, and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities directly or indirectly related to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area. The Nurse evaluates patients’ physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for patients and significant others.
Responsibilities include teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures, maintaining a professional profile, promoting cooperation and a positive attitude, and creating a safe environment for patients and staff. The Nurse adheres to all hospital policies and procedures, including safety protocols.
- Assess patient condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to integrate the nursing regimen with the overall treatment plan.
- Develop written individualized care plans, including teaching needs and discharge planning.
- Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
- Administer medication.
- Practice infection control and maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients; communicate changes in patient condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
- Develop and maintain written plans of care for assigned patients; set priorities to meet patient needs and work with patients and/or families to set goals.
- Document evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding.
- Communicate and work effectively with other staff and departments.
- Participate in unit or hospital-based quality assurance activities or committees to advance the nursing profession at SBSH.
- Graduation from a School of Nursing.
- Current licensure to practice in the state.
- Current BLS & PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Current ACLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required within 3 months of hire.
- New grads need PALS and ACLS from the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire.

- Standing, walking 90% of the time.
- Lifting patients with or without assistance.
- Pushing heavy objects.
- Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke‑free environment; smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas.
- All hospital positions may be subject to changes in pass days and shift as necessary.
- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit facial hair.
- This function/position may be designated as “essential.” When the hospital faces an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at work or report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, and related facilities.
The starting salary range for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
The above salary range represents SBSH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Pre‑Employment RequirementsPrior to the start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete a pre‑employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4‑panel drug screen.
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
